DOMINGO RIVERA SCHOLARSHIP

The Domingo Rivera Scholarship Foundation (Section 503(c)(3)) seeks to assist minority students in underprivileged communities who are high school seniors committed to pursuing a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and serving their community. The chosen awardee will be granted $2,000 in May 2024.

Who was Domingo Rivera?

Domingo “Mingo” Rivera represented resilience, service and kindness. He was born in Puerto Rico and lived as an orphan for much of his childhood. Mingo persevered and even without a formal education, he was able to support his wife and four children while helping out his community.Mingo took a liking to cars and took it upon himself to learn enough about them to become a well-known neighborhood mechanic and friend to many. He treated everyone like family and was willing to help anyone, regardless of their background. He always worked with diligence and integrity, serving his community in a way that made everyone feel welcome. His legacy still lives on today through his family and the inspiration he is to everyone that knew him.

Quien era Domingo Rivera?

Domingo "Mingo" Rivera representa perseverancia, servicio y bondad. Mingo nació en Puerto Rico y vivió como huérfano la mayor parte de su niñez. Él supo perseverar y aún sin contar con una educación formal, fué capaz de proveer para el sustento de su esposa y sus cuatro hijos, mientra también ayudaba a su comunidad.A Mingo le gustaban mucho los automóviles y se dedicó a aprender lo suficiente como para convertirse en un buen mecánico de la vecindad y un buen amigo de muchos. Él trataba a los demás como si fueran parte de la familia y fué capaz de ayudar a otros, no importando su transfondo cultural. Mingo trabajaba con diligencia e integridad, sirviendo a su comunidad de manera tal que hacía sentir a la gente bienvenida. Su legado continúa vivo hasta el día de hoy a través de su familia y de la inspiración que él significa para aquellos que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo.
